Maundy Thursday Experience
April 2 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

AN OBSERVANCE & EXPERIENCE OF MAUNDY THURSDAY
Batavia First Presbyterian & St. James Episcopal Churches
Join us as we remember the night of the New Commandment of Jesus through three distinct movements of worship.
- THE Meal: Potluck Passover Supper | 5:30 PM We gather for a family-style meal featuring foods likely eaten by Jesus and his disciples:
- The Table: Roasted lamb (or beef), Mediterranean salads, beans, carrots, olives, cheese, dates, fruits, and nuts. Please bring a Mediterranean-inspired side dish or fruit to share.
- The Liturgy: This meal includes the reading of Holy Scripture and the celebration of Holy Communion.
- THE BETRAYAL: Gethsemane Prayer Garden We transition to St. Michael’s Chapel to enter the Garden. Through the reading of the Gospel, we sit with Jesus in his final hours of prayer before his arrest. If you would like to add a plant to the garden, please click here…
III. THE SHADOWS: Stripping of the Altar We move finally to the nave to witness the Stripping of the Altar. This stark, ancient tradition prepares our hearts and our space for the solemnity of Good Friday.
Location: Hosted at St. James Episcopal Church
All are welcome.
